There is a Hamiltonian that just has KE and the electron nucleon interaction. There is another Hamiltonian that additionally includes e-e interaction. Which one encompasses shielding?
The other thing I would ask anyone who is endeavoring to explain the origin of Hund's rules is: what is the role of wave-function anti-symmetrization?
I'll post a comment on this tonight. Don't work on this today in class. I don't think you'll get anywhere with it.
ReplyDeleteWhat is shielding? Whence does it arise?
